THE PHILIPPINE delegation to the 27th Southeast Asian Games, whether lean or large, must prepare hard and strive for gold medals.
San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito Estrada yesterday urged the national athletes to go for maximum performance in preparing for this year’s biennial meet to be held in Myanmar in December even if no decision has been made on the exact size of the PH delegation so far.
The Philippine Olympic Committee and several national sports associations are torn between sending a full delegation or a token participation after Myanmar organizers scratched disciplines where Filipino athletes are strong and included 60 indigenous events.
“The best they can do is to prepare hard,” said Ejercito Estrada, a member of the Youth and Sports Committee.
“when the competition starts, they can give their best for the country regardless of the situation,” added ejercito Estrada.
Ejercito Estrada also suggested that the POC and the Philippine Sports Commission should agree on a trimmed but strong roster for the Dec. 11 to 22 Games.
“Focus should be on the training of athletes who can win the gold,” he said.
