Pachanga blanks Archers for second win

PACHANGA Diliman climbed back into the upper half of the United Football League table with a 2-0 whitewash of Green Archers United Saturday night at Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

Iranian striker Alireza Jamali and OJ Clariño struck as the newly promoted side notched a second straight win after three consecutive defeats.

Pachanga increased its tally to 12 points, moving ahead of struggling Nomads, which has lost two straight matches.

Playing with flair and purpose, Pachanga regularly carved up the Archers’ defense with its passing game. The Archers, led by fleet footed attackers Jess Melliza and Chieffy Caligdong, wasted some golden opportunities.

The Archers, who missed their ailing skipper Tating Pasilan, were stuck at eighth spot with only four points from eight matches.

Picked up during the transfer window, Jamali, who briefly played for Pasargad last season, cashed in on a breakdown in the Archers defense seven minutes into the second half.

He fired into an empty net against a rushing Archers’ goalkeeper Patrick Deyto.

Clariño, the former University of Santo Tomas star, scored his first goal for Pachanga just before stoppage time, latching onto a Robert Canedo cross.
