Jerie Pingoy debuts for Ateneo in Fr. Martin
MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion Ateneo-A escaped Fatima University, 89-84, in overtime in the opening of the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the San Beda College gym in Mendiola.
The Blue Eagles, who paraded prized recruit Jerie Pingoy, banked on a 10-0 run led by Kiefer Ravena to take an 85-80 lead with 22.6 seconds left.
Pingoy’s debut though, took an unexpected turn when he got injured at the start of overtime.

The Phoenix landed the first blows in overtime as they took an 80-75 advantage before running out of steam in the end with Ravena, Juami Tiongson and Ryan Buenafe all contributing for the Eagles down the stretch.
Ateneo-B also needed extra time in the other senior’s match when it turned back Lyceum, 80-74.
