Shakey’s V-League: Adamson debuts vs Cebu’s USC

ADAMSON, with a familiar figure leading its attack, starts its quest for a third Shakey’s V-League title today when it battles provincial team University of San Carlos in the Season 10 First Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Falcons, whose youthful core has been toughened in the UAAP, have enlisted former star Angela Benting to power their bid in the tournament they last won five years ago at the expense of Ateneo.

Benting was part of that championship-winning team and she will be looking to reproduce the same magic for the Lady Falcons, who have yet to add to their title collection since Season 7, when they topped the second conference.

Making its return to the country’s premier volleyball league after a long absence, Letran takes on De La Salle Dasmariñas in the first match at 2 p.m.

Ateneo and National U grabbed the headstart in the season-opening tournament organized by Sports Vision after besting University of Santo Tomas and Arellano, respectively, last Sunday.

Seeking a third straight crown, the Lady Eagles prevailed in straight sets over the Tigresses, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20, while the Lady Bulldogs toppled the Lady Chiefs, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20.

The Letran volleybelles are expected to lean on Patcharee Sanmuang, who was once touted as the finest player in Thailand.

Melissa Camille Ogana is the other guest player for Letran, which is looking to revive its glory years in the late 1990s and early 2000s when the team was led by national player Michelle Carolino.

USC, the Cebu champion, will be led by guest players Regine Obinque and Abigail Praca in its maiden V-League foray.
