Lady Falcons trashes USC; La Salle scores

PAU Soriano tossed in 18 points as Adamson swept University of San Carlos, 25-13, 25-22, 25-21, to grab a share of the early lead in Season 10 of the Shakey’s V-League yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Soriano, who scored on 13 attacks and four blocks, also drew support from guest players Angela Benting and Mylene Paat, who teamed up for 12 markers in the Lady Falcons’ decisive victory over the Cebu champion.

Earlier, La Salle-Dasmariñas debuted strong with a surprise straight-set triumph, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21, over a Letran squad powered by a fancied import.

The Lady Patriots hardly showed the jitters La Salle coach Darwin Campana was wary of as Jennifer Manzano came out firing with 18 points, including 14 kills and a couple of service aces.

Both Adamson and La Salle joined opening-day winners Ateneo and National University on top.

Justine Mae Navidad had three blocks in a nine-point outing, while Chie Saet and Iari Yongco added eight markers each.

“They didn’t let their nervousness affect them,” said Campana. “This is a good exposure for us, so I told them to grab the opportunity.”

The Lady Patriots pulled off the victory even with the Lady Knights boasting a marquee guest player in Patcharee Sangmuang, who was once tagged as Thailand’s best player.
