Sizzling-hot twinbill today: Three teams dispute PBA lead

09:25 AM October 26, 2010

MANILA—Teams in the upper half of the standings see action today with San Miguel Beer and Alaska disputing at least a share of the lead in the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

San Miguel and Alaska, both toting 3-win, 1-loss records, collide at 7:30 p.m., following the 5 p.m. opener pitting co-leader Talk ‘N Text against Powerade.
A victory by the Tropang Texters, also 3-1, will temporarily push them at the helm, where they will be joined later by the winner of the San Miguel-Alaska tussle.
A loss for Talk ‘N Text, meanwhile, will give either San Miguel or Alaska the solo lead.
The Beermen will enter the game against the Aces hoping to extend a two-game winning streak, with the Aces seeking to bounce back from a surprise loss to Air21 last week that snapped a three-game run.
Powerade, meanwhile, will be looking to inflict a second straight loss on the Texters, who suffered a 93-95 nipping at the hands of the idle Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Actually, that loss is what makes the Texters even more dangerous as they’re determined to recover their razor-sharp form.
Signs that Talk ‘N Text’s game was slackening came in an outing against sister squad Meralco, where the Texters blew a huge lead and needed to struggle in the endgame before prevailing.
Coach Chot Reyes described that game as “very, very stupid” for his wards, who couldn’t stop Solomon Mercado in the final 1.5 seconds from making the game-winning jumper.
