(UPDATE) Amit, Oryan rescue RP charge in Women’s World 10-ball

MANILA–Defending champion Rubilen Amit and Zemonette Oryan salvaged what ought to be a nightmarish outing for the host country in the second day of the 2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship Tuesday at the Nuvo City in Libis, Quezon City.

Amit downed fellow Filipino Ana Tulawan, 6-1, while last minute addition Oryan dumped Jargelyn Maldonado, 6-2, in group 8.

But the rest of the hopeful Filipinos Mika Claveria and Mildred Almero were blanked in a race to six match by American Julie Kelly and Austrian Jasmin Ouschan in groups 4 and 7, respectively.

Gillian Go, meanwhile, groped for form anew after falling prey to Singaporean Charlene Chai, 6-1, in group 3 while Angel Anola wavered against USA’s Angel Paglia in group 1, 6-2.

Amit, a Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, pounced on Tulawan’s errors to post a five-rack blitz, after a 1-1 deadlock,  that clinched her second win in group 1.

Former world number one Karen Corr of Ireland fought from two sets down to hack out a 6-5 victory over Norweigan Ina Helvik in group F while Zhou Doudou of China trounced Venezuela’s Mirjana Grujicic, 6-1.

Other results: Silvia Gaudino (ITA) defeated Keiko Yukawa (JPN), 6-5. Mildred Almore (PHL) defeated Hyu Ji Won (KOR), 6-5. Wu Jing (CHN) defeated Veronique Menard (CAN), 6-2. Tsai Pei Chen (TPE) defeated Angel Paglia (USA), 6-3. Tan Ho Yun (TPE) defeated Jargelyn Maldonado (PHL), 6-2.
