Stopping two of the finest big men in amateur basketball will be a priority for Fruitas when it clashes with EA Regen Med today in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Team Delta’s twin towers of Ian Sangalang and Raymond Almazan are coming off solid performances in the last two games and Fruitas coach Nash Racela will be looking to find ways to neutralize the duo.
“We are worried about [EA Regen’s] size,” declared Racela, whose wards face Team Delta in the first game at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, Jumbo Plastic seeks to win two in a row for the first time in the conference when it faces Cebuana Lhuillier at 4 p.m.
The Gems, sporting a 3-4 record, are coming off a 69-73 loss to EA Regens last Monday.
Almazan had 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Sanggalang finished with 18 points and 10 boards in the victory over the Gems.
“We feel we have a good chance if we play good defense and not allow them to dominate the boards. Also we want to force them to run with us,” said Racela.
The Shakers, 83-75 winners over Big Chill last Thursday, are looking for back-to-back victories that will put them in solo second behind Blackwater Elite. Fruitas hopes to continue to get the best out of Carlo Lastimosa, who leads the team with 19 points a game.
Team Delta is gunning for its third straight victory, which will put them closer to a playoff berth.
