MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas handily clinched a quarterfinals seat but had to scrape past San Sebastian, 19-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22, on Thursday in the 10th Shakey’s V-League at the Arena in San Juan.
With the Lady Stags — along with Letran Lady Knights reeling to a 0-2 record — the Tigresses already assured themselves a quarterfinals seat with a 2-1 slate in Group A.
Maika Ortiz led UST with 18 points while Carmela Tunay and guest player Aiza Maizo drilled in 17 and 14 markers, respectively.
Ortiz and Jessey De Leon each had four blocks for UST, which leaned on its tough net defense to keep San Sebastian winless.
The Tigresses also bucked a sizzling performance from the Lady Stags’ longtime guest player Jeng Bualee, who finished with 38 big points.
