ADAMSON, drawing strength from the duo of Angela Benting and Pau Soriano, made quick work of Arellano University, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21, yesterday to nail a quarterfinal spot in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference.
Making big plays on both ends, Benting and Soriano combined for 32 points as the Lady Falcons secured their second win in three outings.
Ateneo completed a day of blowouts at Filoil Flying V Arena with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-17 rout of De La Salle-Dasmariñas in the other game.
Alyssa Valdez was held to a conference-low eight points, but Rachel Anne Daquis and Fille Cainglet picked up the slack as the Lady Eagles cruised trouble-free to their fourth straight win.
Daquis was at her efficient best with 12 kills in just 23 attempts as the Lady Patriots showed little resistance to the Lady Eagles’ onslaught.
The loss derailed the Lady Patriots’ bid to gain entry to the quarterfinals from Group A.
With Chie Saet managing just 17 excellent sets, the Lady Patriots attack was left stunted. Jem Ferrer, on the other hand, proved solid with 33 sets, making life easier for Daquis and Cainglet who contributed 10 points, including four off service aces.
Jeniffer Manzano who fired 18 points in the win over Letran last week couldn’t get her game going for the Lady Patriots, finishing with just three points.
The Lady Falcons did a fine job neutralizing Nerissa Bautista and Mary Jean Balse who combined for 26 points.
When the Lady Chiefs threatened in the third set, Benting produced a crucial block to punctuate a terrific performance.
While Adamson defended well, Arellano had trouble dealing with Benting’s attacks. Soriano also proved ruthless with 12 kills.
“It all started with our defense, especially our blocking,” said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses. “They have two good players in Bautista and Balse but we prepared well and it showed in the game.”
