University of Santo Tomas showcased unrivaled excellence as it pulled off a near sweep in women’s athletics to capture the crown in the 2010 Philippine Sports Commission-University Games in Dumaguete City.
The Tigresses topped all but four events to bag the overall championship with a 16 gold-7 silver-6 bronze medal haul in the nationwide varsity tournament.
Led by Serenata Saluan, the Tigresses ruled all the events in the relay, run, dash, hurdles, long and triple jump and steeplechase.
Ateneo copped the men’s title by ruling the shotput, discus throw, classical relay and all but one of the dash events for a six gold-three bronze medal tally.
In men’s basketball, Far Eastern University opened with a 20-7 spurt on the way to a 79-59 rout of University of San Carlos in the quarterfinals.
