USC, Letran try to keep q’final bid alive today

University of San Carlos and Letran try to keep their quarterfinal hopes alive when they clash against separate rivals today in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Having dropped their first three assignments, the Lady Warriors have no choice but to win their 2 p.m. showdown with the Perpetual Help Lady Altas, who also remain winless in two outings.

The Lady Knights are in the same predicament as the Lady Warriors when they square off against the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in the 4 p.m. match.

With a 0-3 slate, Letran needs to win against UST to gain a playoff for the last quarterfinal berth against the loser of the San Sebastian-La Salle Dasmariñas clash on Sunday.

But the feat is easier said than done with the Tigresses back at full-strength and riding high on a two-game winning streak.

Judy Ann Caballejo and Maru Banaticla are back in the lineup for UST after missing matches last week to join a national beach volleyball tournament in Boracay.

Setter Rhea Dimaculangan is also close to regaining top form, which could prove to be another boost for the Tigresses. The veteran Dimaculangan orchestrates the attack for the likes of ace hitters Aiza Maizo and Maika Ortiz.
