Shakey’s V-L: UST ends QF bid of Letran

With Aiza Maizo and Rhea Dimaculangan combining brilliantly, University of Santo Tomas shut the quarterfinal door on Letran with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-20 walloping yesterday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Benefitting from Dimaculangan’s solid setting, Maizo drilled in 16 points to power the Tigresses to their third win in four outings for the No. 2 seed in Group A heading into the quarterfinals.

Perpetual Help later clinched the last quarterfinal spot in Group B with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 triumph over University of San Carlos Lady Warriors, who finished their maiden V-League campaign without a victory.

April Sartin and Honey Tubino had 11 points each as the Lady Altas unleashed a fiery windup in the third set to finish off the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Altas strung up five points to erase an 18-19 deficit and complete the win in a little over an hour.

The Lady Knights also dropped all of their four games in the elimination-round and missed the chance of gaining at least a playoff for a quarterfinal berth against the Tigresses.
