Four teams try to boost Shakey’s V-League slates
PERPETUAL Help and San Sebastian seek a second straight victory when they square off against separate rivals today at the close of the elimination round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference.
The Lady Altas, fresh from a three-set conquest of University of San Carlos that gave them a quarterfinal slot, battle the Adamson Lady Falcons at 4 p.m. at FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Stags go up against De La Salle-Dasmarinas in the first game at 2 p.m. with both teams hoping to gain momentum heading into the quarterfinals.
Article continues after this advertisementAlthough the four teams playing today are already in the next phase, the matches will still matter as records against teams that are also in the quarterfinals will be carried over to determine the Top 4.
The Lady Stags will be looking to follow up their four-set dumping of Letran against the Lady Patriots who are hoping to end a two-game slide.
Jeng Bualee has been a source of strength for the Lady Stags with the Thai import in inspired form.
Article continues after this advertisementBualee tallied a conference high 38 points against University of Santo Tomas two weeks ago and also stood at the forefront of the attack against Letran last Tuesday.
Expected to counter for the Lady Patriots is veteran Jeniffer Manzano, who is looking to shake off a sputtering performance against Ateneo last week.
Rhythm back
After a couple of narrow losses, the Lady Altas finally found their rhythm against the University of San Carlos Warriors last Thursday when April Sartin and Honey Tubino led the charge.
But the Lady Altas will have their hands full against the Lady Falcons, who are powered by Pau Soriano and Angela Benting.
Benting had 18 points in the straight-set victory over Arellano last Sunday. Known more for her blocking prowess, Soriano was also brilliant on attack with 14 points.
