NU looms as Ateneo’s top Shakey’s V-L threat

GAMES THURSDAY

(Filoil Flying V Arena)

2 p.m.—Adamson vs San Sebastian

4 p.m.—Arellano vs Ateneo

UNDER the radar in previous years, National U is slowly emerging as the latest threat to Ateneo’s reign in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference.

The Lady Bulldogs swept their Group B assignments for a perfect 4-0 record and made it to the quarterfinal bracket that includes the Lady Eagles, whom they will face on May 5.

A major reason for the Lady Bulldogs’ rise has been the steady play of Dindin Santiago, who is the league’s second best scorer with 95 points, 10 behind San Sebastian’s Jeng Bualee.

A ruthless attack has also been the Lady Bulldogs’ trademark in the elimination round, where NU emerged as the best in spikes with 38.50 percent success, making 226 of 587 attempts.

As the No. 1 teams after the single round eliminations, the Lady Eagles and the Bulldogs find themselves grouped in one side along with the No. 3 squads (Arellano and La Salle-Dasmariñas).

The second and fourth seeded teams (UST, Adamson, San Sebastian and Perpetual) make up the other group.

The Last 8 is a compact four-playdate phase with the top two in each side advancing to the crossover best-of-three semis. Cedelf P. Tupas
