Benting stars in Lady Falcons’ win in V-League quarterfinals
MANILA, Philippines — It’s been a year since she graduated, but Angela Benting still could deliver the finishing kick for Adamson.
Benting, now a guest player for the Lady Falcons, carried her squad past a pesky San Sebastian, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Shakey’s V-League First Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
Benting scored a team-best 21 points — including five on blocks — and delivered the game-clincher for the unscathed Adamson in the fourth set.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Lady Falcons, now with 2-0 record in the round robin quarterfinals, pulled to within a win from nailing a semifinals spot.
Sheila Pineda added 19 points and Pau Soriano 16 for Adamson, which opened the game with a 2-0 set lead before yielding one to Jeng Bualee and San Sebastian.
Longtime guest player Bualee put up her usual numbers with 25 points but still unable to push the Lady Stags to make an impact in the playoffs.
