Huey, Indian partner bow in ATP Farmers Classic finals
Fil-American Treat Huey and his Indian partner Somdev Devvarman made it to the finals where Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Xavier Malisse of Belarus ended their stirring doubles run in the $619,500 ATP Farmers Classic in Los Angeles Sunday.
Knowles and Malisse, seeded third, needed two tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (12-10), to stop the partnership Huey and Devvarman decided to relive since their University of Virginia days.
Huey and Devvarman earlier reached the finals by ousting the Israeli fourth-seeded pair of Jonathan Erlich and Randy Ram, 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (10-8), 10-4.
Article continues after this advertisementIt was their second upset win after they ousted Brazilian top seeds Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares to make it to the quarterfinals.
Huey and Devvarman received 150 ranking points which would jack up Huey’s world ranking to 80th. They also shared the $18,000 runner-up purse.
The champions won $34,300.
