Pery victory fails to halt Tan’s GT championship
MANILA—Veteran driver Joey Pery thrived under heavy rains to complete a sweep of the two races in the Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring Championships Friday at the Clark International Speedway.
But Pery’s feat wasn’t enough to stop William Tan from capturing the overall crown and the the GT Driver of the Year plum after winding up his campaign with 270 points.
Pery, a veteran of Miata Cup racing, reigned supreme in the sprint and GT main race of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.
With engine problems hounding Tan and eventual Driver of the Year runner-up Mike Tuason of Ford Focus TRS, Pery was hardly challenged in winning the sprint in 23 minutes and 50.778 seconds.
Pery scored a wire-to-wire victory in the GT Main Race, clocking 39 minutes and 8.126 seconds. That Pery third overall with 143 points.
Tan also captured the overall GT200 title with 295 points.
