RIO DE JANEIRO — The Brazilian football federation says striker Michael has been dropped from the under-20 national team for testing positive for cocaine after a match last month.
Fluminense said Tuesday in a news conference that Michael admitted using cocaine before a match with the club’s senior squad in the Rio de Janeiro state championship on April 6.
The 20-year-old Michael had been summoned for Brazil’s under-20 team which will play a series of friendlies next month.
The announcement comes less than a week after Fluminense playmaker Deco tested positive for a banned diuretic. The former Chelsea and Portugal midfielder said the substance likely stemmed from contaminated vitamins.
