MANILA, Philippines—San Sebastian high-flyer Ronald Pascual skied over a hapless Emilio Aguinaldo College defender that gave the Stags the biggest lead of the game.
Pascual though, needed one more dunk to seal San Sebastian’s win over the Generals, 77-70, in the NCAA Season 87 Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
The six-foot-three swingman fired nine of his game-high 19 points in the payoff period including a two-handed flush with 30.7 ticks left for a 72-68 cushion, enough to propel the Stags to an impressive 6-0 start.
San Sebastian was on course for another blowout victory as it led 41-20 on Pascual’s play of the year candidate just before halftime.
The Stags carried their momentum in the second half, giving coach Topex Robinson luxury to field in his second and third stringers.
But clearly not going down without a fight, the Generals capitalized on the opportunity.
EAC, which dropped to 2-4, put a scare on San Sebastian’s clean slate as it came as close to one, 66-67, on a basket by Milan Vargas off a nifty give-and-go with 2:17 remaining.
Pascual though retaliated with a much-needed triple that kept the Generals at bay.
The Stags remained in first-place tie with the defending champion San Beda Red Lions.
Calvin Abueva added 17 points for the 2009 NCAA champion San Sebastian.
