Trusty Benting fires 28 as Adamson shocks NU in V-League semis
MANILA, Philippines — Workmanlike effort from Angela Benting inspired Adamson to turn back National University in five sets, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 15-13, Tuesday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference semifinals at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons’ noted alumna and now their guest player, Benting provided a flashback of how she led Adamson deep into the UAAP season during her time — and she’s doing it again the V-League.
Benting finished with 28 big points and teamed up with Shiela Pineda, who had 18 points, to help the Lady Falcons survive the tough Lady Bulldogs especially in the decisive fifth set.
Down 5-9 in the fifth set, Benting led a 6-1 rally to give them an 11-10 lead. The Lady Bulldogs regain upperhand anew, 13-12, but the Lady Falcons racked up three straight to clinch the win.
Adamson can finish off NU, which reeled to its first setback of the conference, on Thursday in game two of their best-of-three semifinals series.
Dindin Santiago led the Lady Bulldogs with 24 points including four blocks, as she willed her squad from 1-2 set deficit to forge fifth frame.
Myla Pablo added 12 for NU on a losing effort, while Carmina Aganon and guest player Alyja Santiago had 11 and 10, respectively.
