UAAP rejects Adamson plea for La Salle rematch but ups referee ban to 6 games

MANILA, Philippines — The UAAP technical committee on Saturday shot down Adamson’s plea for a rematch against La Salle but extended the suspension of the referee who made the controversial unsportsmanlike foul from three to six games.
It was a partial victory for Adamson who wanted a season ban for Francisco Olivar Jr. whose “untimely decision” to call a foul against the Falcons with 15.9 seconds left may have influenced the outcome of Wednesday’s game, which La Salle won, 70-67.
Article continues after this advertisementOlivar will serve his suspension from July 27 to August 21, said Malou Isip, the league’s secretary and also the Falcons’ representative to the UAAP board.
The rematch, meanwhile, was turned down by the technical committee because the concern was a “judgement call” by Olivar and “not technical in nature.”
Adamson, which face Far Eastern University on Sunday as the first round of the competition ends, though will not be elevating the matter to the UAAP board.
