FAR Eastern University’s Lady Tamaraws preserved their unbeaten run by tripping La Salle, 67-62, at the start of the second round recently of the UAAP basketball eliminations at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Top MVP contender Camille Sambile had another huge double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds to power the defending champions to their eighth straight victory.

While the win extended the Lady Tamaraws’ remarkable winning streak to 26 games since 2011, the FEU men’s squad saw its own perfect run come to an end.

Jack Tanaman also delivered for the Lady Tamaraws with 15 points, including seven straight that gave them a 64-57 advantage.

NU kept solo second with a 6-2 card as Kristine Abriam drilled 19 points to lift the Lady Bulldogs to a 65-58 disposal of Adamson.

The Lady Archers fell to 5-3, while University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines rose to 4-4 following separate wins.

Lore Rivera and Maica Cortes teamed up for 28 points to lead the Tigresses to a 72-51 rout of University of the East while the Lady Maroons bested Ateneo, 71-63, behind Bea Daez and Patrcia Tatel’s combined 34 points.

Meanwhile, UST forward Aljon Mariano dismissed a recent injury as a “normal sprain” and said he would suit up in the Tigers’ next game versus Ateneo in men’s play next week.

Mariano sat out almost the entire second half after twisting his left ankle in the Tigers’ loss to the Warriors, 68-67, last Thursday.

“I’ll be able to play,” said Mariano. “It’s a normal sprain, it’s just swollen right now.”
