The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (Abap) heeded the call of its chair, businessman-sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan, to extend assistance to victims of the recent flooding in Metro Manila through the “Tulong Kapatid” program.

The national boxers and coaches were immediately mobilized Wednesday morning at the Abap gym at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.  They packed bags containing rice, canned goods, noodles, biscuits and sandwiches.

They then motored to Brgy. Zapote in Bacoor, where they were joined by Mayor Strike Revilla to distribute the relief items to hundreds of families.

“We are one of the hardest hit,” said Revilla.  “Abap is the first private group to give assistance to us.”

Among those who were in Cavite were world women’s champion Josie Gabuco, world junior champion Eumir Felix Marcial, recent China Open winner Nesthy Petecio, Charly Suarez, London Olympian Mark Barriga and world junior bronze medalist Jade Bornea.
