V-League: Army overpowers PNP
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Army hardly broke a sweat as it blanked lowly Philippine National Police, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15, in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Jovelyn Gonzaga anchored the Lady Troopers’ charge with 21 points on 15 kills.
Army, which is also bannered by veteran attackers Mary Jean Balse and Nene Bautista, overpowered PNP to extend its dominating run to three games.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Lady Troopers exposed the Lady Patrollers’ weaknesses particularly at the receiving end with seven service aces, four of which came from Balse.
Balse, the former University of Santo Tomas standout, finished with 10 points while Michelle Carolino added seven points.
PNP, which got 12 points from its Thai import Patcharee Sangmuang, suffered its third straight setback in as many stints.
