Lim makes HK Open semis

Alberto Lim Jr., trounced hometown bet Hei Yin Andrew Li, 6-1, 6-1, yesterday to barge into the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open junior tennis championships in Victoria Park.

The 14-year-old Lim bested another local boy Chek Pong Marco Lam, 4-6, 6-2, 3-0 (retired) to make the quarterfinals Wednesday.

But Filipino top seed Jurence Zosimo Mendoza absorbed  a 6-2, 6-2 upset from South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo Wednesday.

The sixth seed Lim will take on either fifth seed Oh Chan-yeong of South Korea or Lim Liang-yu of Chinese Taipei in his bid for a final berth.

Lim and Mendoza later paired in the boys doubles to oust Thailand’s Jupran Atikan and Khunjan Nawajarn, 0-1 (retired) to also make the semifinals. Marc Anthony Reyes
