UE, CEU gain Sweet 16 berths
UNIVERSITY of the East and Centro Escolar University completed the Sweet 16 cast of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) after downing separate opponents yesterday at Technological Institute of the Philippines gym.
The Warriors survived a hard-fighting Lyceum squad, 77-74, while the Scorpions dominated St. Francis most of the way in a 78-64 victory at the end of the Metro Manila qualifiers.
Roi Sumang came through in the clutch for the Warriors by completing a three-point play that tied the game at 74, before nailing the go-ahead basket with 47 seconds left.
Article continues after this advertisementRodrigue Ebondo, meanwhile, paced the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu) champion Scorpions with 16 points.
Both winners will clash at the start of the stepladder Sweet 16 in the Luzon-Metro Manila division on Monday at 4 p.m. at Faith gym in Tanauan City, Batangas.
