MANILA, Philippines – PBA stars Jimmy Alapag, Mark Caguioa and Asi Taulava team up to lead the league’s relief efforts in typhoon-stricken Tacloban City on Friday.

Alapag, Caguioa and Taulava, along with fellow players LA Tenorio and Danny Seigle as well as commissioner Chito Salud, Board chair Mon Segismundo and Board member Eric Arejola will show their full support to the city, which bore the brunt of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” through the league’s Alagang PBA program.

“This is our way of showing support to our brothers who were devastated by Yolanda. And the PBA is on it for a long term, not just one time,” said Salud.

The PBA delegation is set to bring in relief goods and cash donations apart from the initial P1-million.

The league will also give six portable rims, boards and six dozen basketballs on top of the relief goods in Leyte.

“The background of this was the group of kids photographed playing basketball on a makeshift court amidst the ruins and debris in Western Samar,” said Salud referring to the photo taken by The Associated Press which went viral through social networking sites that even got the attention of several NBA stars.

Alapag, Taulava and Seigle trace their Filipino roots in the provinces hit hardest by the typhoon.

The PBA welcomes cash donations. For more information, call 4703255.
