Jeson Patrombon secures main draw slot
MANILA, Philippines — Jeson Patrombon hacked out an impressive win over Canadian Andrew Ochotta, 6-1, 6-3, Monday and secured a slot in the main draw of the Olivarez Cup-Philippine international men’s tennis championship.
The 20-year-old, who reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open juniors three years ago, used his power game to master the qualifying round’s second seed before rains halted matches at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Also making the finals of the qualifying round are Jurence Zosimo Mendoza, who will take on Hong Kong’s Andrew Li Yin-hei, Leander Lazaro, who will tangle with Vietnam’s Nguyen Thien Hoang and Eric Olivarez Jr., who will battle compatriot Calvin Canlas.
Already assured of slots as wild cards are Johnny Arcilla, Patrick John Tierro and Elbert Anasta, and Fil-Italian Marc Reyes.
