Thailand Open: Filipino tracksters settle for silver, bronze
Team Philippines settled for silver and bronze medals in the 2014 Thailand Open Track and Field Championships at Thammasat University in Bangkok recently.
Burma (Myanmar) Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist Riezel Buenaventura snared second place in women’s pole vault with a 3.80-meter effort, matching the SEAG mark.
A Thai bested Buenaventura with a leap of 3.90m.
Article continues after this advertisementHsu Hsueh-chin of Chinese Taipei placed third with her 3.70-m effort. Julian Reem Fuentes also landed in the podium in men’s long jump, copping the bronze with a 7.18-m leap.
Thais took the gold (7.29m) and silver (7.21m) medals. Javelin thrower Evalyn Palabrica and high jumper Manuel Lasangue Jr. settled for fourth and seventh in their respective events.
Palabrica threw the spear to 42.93m in the event won by Malaysia’s Siti Nur Nadiah Mohamad Osman of Malaysia (49.34m). Lasangue posted 1.95m, off the winning 2.18m of Malaysian Lee Hup Wei.
