Filoil hoops: SWU Cobras oust UE Warriors; Archers hang on
Landry Sanjo exploded for 34 points as Southwestern University pulled off a surprise rout of University of the East, 80-63, to clinch a quarterfinal berth in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup yesterday at Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
The Cebu-based Cobras, who will return to Manila for the next round, wrapped up their elimination run with a 5-1 record while eliminating the Red Warriors (3-3) in Group A.
La Salle kept its quarterfinal hopes alive with an 82-68 drubbing of University of San Carlos behind Almond Vosotros and Jeron Teng. Vosotros, who finished with 16 points, knocked in back-to-back triples to spark the Archers’ dominant start on the way to their fourth Group A win in five games.
Article continues after this advertisementTeng topscored with 18 and rookie Julian Sargent added 13 for the Archers, who led by as many as 19 points, 70-51.
Teng and Vosotros also sizzled on Saturday night as the Archers dealt the SWU Cobras their first loss, 64-59.
Vosotros drilled in 16 points while Teng had 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists against SWU.

Meanwhile, Centro Escolar University shoots for a Group C sweep against San Sebastian at 4 p.m. today at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The streaking Scorpions, assured of a quarterfinal berth, stunned the National University Bulldogs, 61-58, last week.
Mapua and the Philippine Under-18 Team, both winless in four outings, gun for their first win in Group B at 2:15 p.m.
