Former World Series MVP Manny Ramirez arrested

/ 10:20 AM September 13, 2011

WESTON, Florida— Police say former World Series Most Valuable Player Manny Ramirez has been arrested in a domestic dispute at his Florida home and he is being charged with battery.

The Broward County sheriff’s office says the 39-year-old Ramirez was arrested Monday at his home at Weston in South Florida.

Ramirez retired in April rather than face a 100-game suspension for a second violation of Major League Baseball’s drug policy. The 12-time All-Star served a 50-game ban in 2009 while with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Second-time offenders get double that penalty.

Ramirez was named MVP of the World Series in 2004.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney. Jail records did not list one for him.
