Army sweeps Cagayan, wins V-League title
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Army braced for a Cagayan Valley fightback in Game 2.
Article continues after this advertisementBut there was little resistance Sunday and the Lady Troopers needed only three sets to close the Lady Rising Suns out, 25-14, 25-7, 25-23, and capture the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Open Conference title Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Ann Daquis stood at the forefront of Army’s attack and wound up with 13 points apiece.
Last year’s season MVP Gonzaga, who also had 11 digs, was named Finals MVP. She fired 19 points and recorded six blocks in Game 1.

The Lady Troopers also dominated the Lady Suns in their title opener with a 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, 25-5.
