Kvitova, V. Williams rematch set at China Open

BEIJING — Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams will meet in the third round of the China Open in a reprise of their dramatic, three-set encounter at Wimbledon.

Kvitova was two points from defeat in that match, but came back to beat Williams 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-5 and ride that momentum all the way to her second Wimbledon title.

The third-seeded Czech player set up another clash with a 6-4, 6-2 win over China’s Peng Shuai beneath the roof on center court on a cold, rainy day in Beijing.

The rain wiped out play on the outer courts, leaving only a handful of matches to be completed on center court.

On the men’s side, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic played Canadian Vasek Pospisil and American John Isner took on Spain’s Tommy Robredo.
