UE dominates Xavier Fencing Cup

Underscoring its might in the sport it also dominates in the UAAP, University of the East emerged as the top team in the second Xavier School Fencing Cup held recently at Jacinto Gym in San Juan.

Sustaining the success of their program after posting a back-to-back sweep in the UAAP early this year, the UE fencers collected nine gold medals in the competition spread across four age groups.

UE ruled all seven events in the 13-15 age group with Reynaldo Perez (boys’ epee), Prince John Felipe (boys’ foil), Jeremy Valena (sabre), Myckle Bustos (girls’ epee) and Divine Romero (girls’ foil) clinching titles.

UE also took the boys and girls’ team foil gold medal in the 13-15 division, while Samuel Tranquillan topped the 16-18 boys’ foil of the event that lured participants from Ateneo, British School Manila, De La Salle Zobel, Far Eastern-FERN, St. Jude and St. Paul.
