PLDT, IEM target second Shakey’s wins

IMPRESSIVE in their debut, PLDT Home Telpad and Instituto Estetico Manila shoot for second straight victories today in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Foreign Reinforced Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Turbo Boosters clash against an equally formidable Cagayan Valley squad in the women’s division at 6 p.m., after IEM battles Rizal Technological U in a men’s contest at 4.

With Suzanne Roces coming up with a superb showing, PLDT debuted with a three-set victory over the Meralco Power Spikers who were forced to sit out their two reinforcements.

But the Turbo Boosters are expected to have their hands full against the Lady Rising Suns, who are aching to bounce back from a five-set loss to Army.

Still, it was a creditable showing for Cagayan which was barred by the league from fielding its two Thai imports due to the lack of a transfer certificate.

Roces will be spearheading the PLDT attack which also features power hitting Gretchel Soltones, Angela Benting and Lou Ann Latigay.

Even without imports, the Lady Rising Suns are formidable with Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Ma. Angeli Tabaquero, Janine Marciano, Shiela Pineda and Pau Soriano taking turns on attack.

The IEM Volley Masters opened their campaign in the men’s tournament with a five-set win over System last Sunday.
