Fast-paced fight will favor Pacquiao, says UFC champ Frankie Edgar
MANILA, Philippines — Only a few have picked Manny Pacquiao to win over undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. when they step into the ring on May 2, but don’t count the Filipino boxing icon out just yet.
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar said Pacquiao has a chance to beat Mayweather, who boasts an impressive 47-0 mark.
“It’s not an easy fight [for Pacquiao],” said Edgar, who is in town Tuesday for the On-Sale press conference held at the Solaire Hotel and Casino for his fight with Urijah Faber. “I think Floyd has the best defensive in boxing, he’s very fast.”
“But Manny is one of the most dangerous guys in the history of boxing. He’s got great, great feet, a lot of power in both hands and he’s gonna keep coming,” added Edgar, one of the most exciting MMA fighters to watch.
The 33-year-old featherweight contender also thinks that the pace of the fight will be crucial for both welterweight titans.
“I think if it’s a slow-paced fight it will go Floyd’s way but if it’s fast-paced and there’s a lot of exchanges I think Manny will get it done,” said Edgar.
