CEU boosts Dickies semis bid
CENTRO Escolar University-CafeFrance secured at least a playoff for a semifinal berth as it foiled University of Santo Tomas, 72-66, in the Smart-PCABL 4th Dickies Cup recently at Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
Janine Pontejos and Mary Ann Dologue combined for 13 of the team’s 26-point output in the payoff period as the Lady Stallions nailed their fifth win six games.
CEU-CafeFrance, which drew 24 points from Dologue and 15 from Pontejos, must beat University of the East at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday to claim the first Final Four berth.
Ateneo-San Migue Corporation likewise boosted its bid with a 55-52 squeaker over Far Eastern U in the tournament backed by CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, K-Tech Sports and Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.
Danica Jose led Ateneo (4-2) with 14 points, including six in the final quarter. She was ably supported by Gaby Veloso who chipped in 10.
The UE Lady Warriors evened their record to 3-3 following an 82-78 win over the Adamson Lady Falcons. Adamson, FEU and UST are at the cellar with 2-4 records.
