Malayan, JRU trip Freego Cup foes
With five players scoring in double figures, Malayan School romped to a 97-77 win over University of Santo Tomas and kept its share of the Group B lead with Jose Rizal University in the 8th Smart-PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) Freego Cup recently at Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.
Mike Enriquez led Malayan’s attack with 22 points, 12 of them in the second quarter, as the Red Robins took a 61-41 lead at the half. He took Freego Player of the Game honors.
Rom Junsay added 21 points for Malayan which posted its third straight win in as many outings in the event also sponsored by Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste, Insular Square (Cebu), Fed Seal, K TechSports Inc., and New Pioneer Auto Supply (Cebu).
In other games, Player of the Game Reygan Santos erupted for 18 points to help Adamson score a 76-75 win over Lyceum, the JRU Light Bombers drew 23 points from Jairuz Torre to outlast Xavier, 77-76, and Hope Christian High School downed University of the East, 67-41.
