China subdues Thailand to capture Asian U23 Volleyball gold

In a showdown of prime Asian volleyball powers, it was the giant from East Asia that took the gold.

China put down Thailand 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-11, in the gold medal match of the Asian U23 Women’s Volleyball Championship on Saturday evening at Philsports Arena.

Not only did China get the gold, they got a pass to the 2015 FIVB World U23 Women’s Volleyball Championship with Thailand coming along with them to Ankara, Turkey.

Thailand put up a valiant stand against the mighty Chinese for the first three sets, even taking the second one, but China showed they were the powers and destroyed them easily in the final set.

China won all seven of its matches and dropped only four sets, two set losses against Korea, one against Thailand, and one against hosts Philippines.

Liu Yanhan led China with 28 points while Duan Fang had 13.

Chatchu-on Moksri had 17 points to lead Thailand with Pimpichaya Kokram adding 10.
