SINGAPORE—Thrower Caleb Stuart is now ready to throw his weight around in the 28th Southeast Asian Games.

High on the list of gold-medal prospects, the US-based recruit will zero in on top podium finishes in the hammer, discus and shot put events when track and field competitions go full swing Sunday.

“Three golds? I’m confident but I don’t want to promise anything,” said the 6-foot-2 Stuart.

He registered a career best of 68.66 meters in the hammer in a Fullerton, California tournament a few months back, an invincible feat by SEA Games standards.  The existing record in the event is 62.23 set by Tantipong Phetchaiya of Thailand in the 2013 Games.

FEATURED STORIES

In the shot put and discus, Stuart would just let his strength and technique prevail.

Stuart joins a promising list of newbies in athletics, including Filipino-American long jumper Donovant Arriola, triple jump specialist Mark Harry Diones, long sprinters Johan Caido and Ryan Bigyan and pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena.
