SEAG winners Adorna, Mangrobang hope to inspire women to compete in triathlon

When Claire Adorna and Kim Mangrobang crossed the ribbon at the 28th Southeast Asian Games, they not only collected the gold and silver medals, they also became the epitome of powerful women.

Adorna won the gold in the triathlon event of the Singapore games while Mangrobang took silver.

With SEA Games hardware around their necks, the duo found a new niche, as mirrors of strong women.

“People will see that we are strong women,” Mangrobang said in a press conference Thursday at Anabel’s in Tomas Morato that their sponsors Unilab hosted. “We won medals, and there will be more girls who would like to join triathlons.”

For gold medalist Adorna, winning in the SEA Games showed that triathlon isn’t just a man’s sport anymore and that even girls can compete.

“Before, triathlon was seen as a sport for guys, but now everyone, can join triathlon events.”

Adorna said she hopes their feat in the biennial meet would serve as an inspiration to other women to join athletic events.
