Cedo yields to Choi

/ 02:00 AM July 26, 2015

ANNIKA Cedo leveled the match with back-to-back birdies but bogeyed the final hole, enabling Jayna Choi of Canada to snatch a 1-up win in their quarterfinal showdown in the US Girls’ Junior at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Friday.

It was a sorry setback for the 16-year-old Cedo, who upended two higher ranked rivals to gain a crack at the Final Four.

She actually recovered from a bogey start and took a 1-up lead after Choi bogeyed Nos. 3 and 4 only to drop to another all-square game with her own bogey on the sixth.

It was roller-coaster from there with the duo trading holes in the next four and the Filipino, playing out of Southwoods, regaining a 1-up lead at the turn.

But she fumbled with bogeys on Nos. 11 and 12 and dropped another stroke on the 14th, allowing Choi to go 2-up. But the St. Paul Pasig standout birdied Nos. 15 and 16 to force a standoff.  Both player parred the par-3 17th, but  Cedo bogeyed the final hole with Choi barely missing a birdie putt to snare the victory.
