INQUIRER.net poll: PH didn’t do right in bidding to host Fiba World Cup
Millions of basketball-crazy Filipinos were heartbroken over Fiba’s decision to award the hosting rights of the 2019 Basketball World Cup to China recently.
But majority of the respondents of INQUIRER.net’s online poll thought that the country did not do right in bidding to host the grand basketball competition in the world.
Out of 4,327 respondents, 1,672 voters or 38.64 percent answered “No, because PH doesn’t have the infrastructure and resources to host such a big sporting event.”
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, 1015 people or 23.46 percent also didn’t think the country did right in the bidding due to the business aspect of things and that “PH doesn’t have a big enough market.”
China’s final presentation focused on its vast infrastructure, progressive country and experience in hosting big sporting events like the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Philippines’ final bid, meanwhile, was about the Filipinos’ unparalleled passion for the game with the lack of ready-made venues that would fit in under Fiba’s criteria.
Article continues after this advertisementOnly 656 respondents or 15.16 percent believed the love for basketball was enough reason to bid for hosting while 984 or 22.74 percent felt the country would have had “adequate infrastructure in place” by 2019.
