Chicano rules nat’l trials

JOHN Chicano stayed on top of his game despite a sudden race-course change in the Philippine National Trials yesterday in Iloilo.

Chicano posted a one hour, 58 minutes and 20 seconds clocking to rule the elite male category of the 8K run-38K bike-4K run duathlon race that was originally slated as a 750m swim-40K bike-10K run triathlon event.

Race organizers decided to do away with the swim leg for safety reasons as Typhoon “Ineng” brought strong currents.

Nikko Huelgas, the Southeast Asian Games triathlon gold medalist, clocked in 48 seconds later for a time of 1:59:08.

Mark Hosana rounded out the podium finishers (2:00:55).
