Mayweather: I am proud to be a clean athlete

Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. insisted he has done nothing wrong following a report saying he violated anti-doping rules prior to his fight against Manny Pacquiao on May 2.

Mayweather said in a statement he did not violate any rules imposed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency when he took an infusion of salines and vitamins through an intravenous procedure.

“As already confirmed by the USADA statement, I did not commit any violations of the Nevada or USADA drug testing guidelines,” Mayweather said in the statement. “I follow and have always followed the rules of Nevada and USADA, the gold standard of drug testing.”

SB Nation reported Mayweather took the infusion of salines and vitamins intravenously which the USADA prohibits.

Mayweather’s team told USADA agents the IV contained a 250-milliliter mixture of saline and multivitamins and a 500-milliliter mixture of saline and Vitamin C and was given to the boxer for rehydration purposes as the report said.

“Let’s not forget that I was the one six years ago who insisted on elevating the level of drug testing for all my fights. As a result, there is more drug testing and awareness of its importance in the sport of boxing today than ever before,” Mayweather said.

In a statement, the USADA said the report was a “false suggestion” and Mayweather did not violate any rules.
