Air Force, Indonesia spikers lead PVF semifinalists
MANILA—Defending men’s champion Philippine Air Force and the Indonesian national women’s team bashed their respective rivals in the 2011 National Volleyball Open Championship Friday to clinch semifinal slots at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Air Force, headed by Rhovyl Verayo and Dante Alinsunurin, posted a 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17 victory against National University to claim the No. 1 spot in the semifinals with a 3-0 win-loss record in the event organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation headed by president Gener Dungo.
The Indonesians routed Holy Angel University, 25-5, 25-14, 25-11, to top the women’s division with a 4-0 card.
Article continues after this advertisementAgot, the other men’s semifinalist, survived Far Eastern University in a grueling five-setter, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10, for a 4-0 card.
University of Perpetual Help (2-1) and FEU (3-1) are also closing in on the last two spots in the men’s semifinals, while FEU, La Salle and the Philippine team are also close to securing semifinal berths in the women’s side.
