PSL: Cignal deals Petron early loss behind Usher’s 29
From way up high, Cignal’s Ariel Usher slammed her way to deal Petron’s first defeat in almost a year.
The 24-year-old from Hillsborough, Oregon, found her range just when the HD Spikers needed it most, firing 29 spikes for a total output of 31 and powered her team to a 18-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-18, 16-14 triumph yesterday in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
Article continues after this advertisementThe large crowd appreciated the heroics of the 6-foot-1 open hitter who was unstoppable from every angle, helping her team recover from two sets down by dropping bombs, including the final two points of the match, in the fifth set.
Making it more remarkable was the fact that Petron was coming from a glorious 13-0 sweep en route to the All Filipino Conference title three months ago. The Blaze Spikers haven’t tasted defeat since the 2014 Grand Prix last November.
In the second game, Foton tripped Meralco, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16 behind Lindsay Stalzer.
