Shakey’s V-League: Navy, CG lady tossers clash

Another meltdown this time will put either Philippine Navy and Coast Guard in a spot feared by all teams.

The Lady Sailors and the Lady Dolphins try to avoid a 0-2 hole when they tangle in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12-Reinforced Conference at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Out to rebound from a bitter straight-sets defeat to PLDT Home Ultera, the Lady Dolphins are again expected to lean on skipper Rossan Fajardo and veterans Sandra delos Santos, Mary Rosale, Nelet Clarete, Hyrize Macabuhay and Samantha Dawson.

Coast Guard is expected to be more aggressive at the net this time after managing just 18 attacks to the Fast Hitters’ 41 despite the latter missing the services of star player Alyssa Valdez and NCAA MVP Gretchel Soltones.

The Navy Lady Sailors fought the UP Lady Maroons tooth-and-nail last week but still yielded a 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23 decision.

Navy coach Zenaida Chavez expects more production from hitters Hezzymie Acuna, Pau Soriano, Lilet Mabbayad, May Genido, Yvette Martinez and setter Janet Serafica in the tournament backed by Accel and Mikasa.

In the men’s Spikers’ Turf tournament, Cignal TV and Air Force dispute the lead at 5 p.m. Both won their first games last week. PLDT Home Ultera and Sta. Elena try to barge into the win column when they clash at 3 p.m.

The Cignal HD Spikers came away with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 win over the PLDT Ultra Fast Hitters to join Air Force and Navy in the early lead.
