University of the Philippines shut down Philippine Coast Guard, 25-20, 25-22, 27-25, to remain undefeated in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference Saturday at San Juan Arena.

It was a sorry error from the Lady Dolphins that sealed the Lady Maroons’ 2-0 record and kept their spot atop the league early in the tournament.

UP head coach Gerry Yee wasn’t too pleased with the performance of the Lady Maroons but they will take the victory.

“It wasn’t pretty… But we’re a young team and we’re trying new schemes,” Yee said.

Rose Cailing gave UP the 26-25 match point with an off-the-block attack that bounced off two Lady Dolphins.

Maria Lina Moralde led UP with 15 points while Justine Dorog, who only played in two sets, added 11.

Rossan Fajardo led the 0-2 Coast Guard with nine.

Despite the 2-0 start, Yee said his team still lacked the confidence to dominating the games in the early stages.

“Our confidence is on and off, we always start jittery,” Yee said. “But I’m okay that we can pick it up.”
